What is htaccess?

The name .htaccess stands for “hypertext access,” which is used to manage access to your website pages. It’s a plain yet powerful text file you can edit using any text editor or directly in your hosting file manager provided the host permits it. The .htaccess file is usually found in the root directory of your website but can be created in subdirectories to manage access to specific areas of your site.

In WordPress, the .htaccess file can be found in the same directory as the rest of the core files such as ‘wp-includes‘, ‘wp-admin‘, ‘wp-config.php‘, and ‘wp-content‘.
